Transfer News: Dezz Ricks Confidently Chooses Texas A&M Over Alabama in Smooth Transition — All the Details You Need to Know

Cornerback Dezz Ricks has officially transferred to Texas A&M, choosing the Aggies over a potential return to Alabama and several other top-tier programs. The former 5-star recruit and Alabama defensive back is bringing his talent and confidence to College Station, signaling a major win for head coach Mike Elko as he continues reshaping the Aggies’ defense.

Originally a member of the 2023 recruiting class, Ricks was a top-10 national prospect and one of the most highly coveted defensive backs in the country. At 6’1” and 190 pounds, he brings a combination of size, length, and athleticism that made him a perfect fit for SEC play.

While his time at Alabama was relatively quiet limited by depth in a loaded secondary  Ricks still showed flashes of the elite talent that made him a 5-star recruit coming out of IMG Academy. Now, with a change of scenery, he’s ready to take the next step in his development.

According to sources close to Ricks, the move to Texas A&M was about fit, opportunity, and vision. The Aggies have a need at cornerback following roster turnover, and Ricks sees a clear path to becoming a starter.  Mike Elko’s defensive scheme, known for maximizing DB talent, was a key factor in Ricks’ decision. Confidence in Development: Ricks has expressed faith in the new staff’s ability to help him reach his NFL potential.

Ricks’ arrival immediately upgrades the Aggies’ secondary, giving them a physical, battle-tested corner with big-game experience and SEC speed. He’s expected to compete for a starting job right away and could become a key part of a resurgent defense in 2025.

His addition also signals Elko’s growing influence in the transfer portal — a clear sign that elite talent is not only considering A&M but choosing it confidently.

While Dezz Ricks may not have had the breakout year many expected at Alabama, the move to Texas A&M gives him a clean slate and a big opportunity. With his skill set and newfound motivation, he could quickly become one of the SEC’s top defensive backs.

For the Aggies, this is more than just a depth move  it’s a high-upside play that could pay off in a big way.
