JUST IN: Few Hours Ago South Carolina Marching Band Named World’s Best by ESPN After Historic, Jaw-Dropping Performance Stuns Global Audience

In a remarkable display of musical excellence and showmanship, the University of South Carolina’s Carolina Band has been named the world’s best marching band by ESPN. This prestigious recognition follows a historic performance that captivated audiences globally, showcasing the band’s precision, energy, and deep-rooted traditions.
Known as the “Mighty Sound of the Southeast,” the Carolina Band boasts a rich history dating back to 1920. Under the direction of Dr. Jay Jacobs, the ensemble has grown to include 375 members, making it the largest ensemble associated with the university’s School of Music .
In 2024, the Carolina Band achieved a significant milestone by performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Their participation was marked by a rendition of “Greensleeves” at Herald Square and a live performance on NBC’s “Today Show,” where South Carolina native and anchor Craig Melvin joined the band in uniform .
