BREAKING NEWS: Ohio State Buckeyes Head Coach Ryan Day Has Been Dismissed Amid Growing Pressure From Fans.

In a stunning move that has sent shockwaves across the college football landscape, Ohio State University has dismissed head football coach Ryan Day following growing dissatisfaction from fans, alumni, and university stakeholders. The announcement comes after another disappointing season in which the Buckeyes failed to secure a Big Ten title or make a serious run at the College Football Playoff.

Ryan Day took over the program in 2019 following the retirement of Urban Meyer and initially found great success. In his first full season, he led Ohio State to an undefeated regular season, a Big Ten Championship, and a trip to the College Football Playoff. He followed that with another playoff appearance in 2020, including a victory over Clemson in the semifinals. However, the Buckeyes have since failed to return to the national championship game and have struggled in their most critical rivalry matchups.

The biggest stain on Day’s record came from repeated losses to archrival Michigan. Under his leadership, Ohio State lost three consecutive games to the Wolverines — a result that many fans deemed unacceptable given the stakes of “The Game” and the tradition surrounding it. Despite maintaining top-tier recruiting classes and strong regular-season performances, these losses became a breaking point for many in Buckeye Nation.

In a statement released Monday, Athletic Director Gene Smith thanked Day for his leadership and effort but explained the university’s need for a change. “Coach Day has guided our program with integrity and passion, and we thank him for his service. However, at Ohio State, the standard is national championships and victories in our biggest games. After careful consideration, we believe it’s time to pursue a new direction.”

The decision comes as the Big Ten undergoes major changes, including expansion and increased competition across the conference. Ohio State, long considered one of the crown jewels of college football, will now begin a national search for a head coach who can meet the program’s elite standards and return the Buckeyes to championship glory.
