BREAKING NEWS: Missouri Tigers Head Coach Elijah Drinkwitz Has Been Dismissed Amid Growing Pressure From Fans.

In a major development from the Southeastern Conference, the University of Missouri has officially announced the dismissal of head football coach Eliah “Eli” Drinkwitz. The decision follows mounting frustration among fans and boosters over the Tigers’ recent performances and the perceived stagnation of the program under his leadership.

Drinkwitz, who took over the Missouri Tigers in 2020, was initially viewed as a promising young coach with a strong offensive mind and a clear vision for rebuilding the program. His early success, including back-to-back bowl appearances and top-tier recruiting classes, raised expectations. However, inconsistencies on the field and a failure to contend in the SEC East ultimately eroded confidence in his leadership.

Over the past two seasons, Missouri struggled to maintain momentum, often falling short in key matchups against conference rivals. While Drinkwitz occasionally secured upset wins, those moments were overshadowed by blowout losses, defensive lapses, and an inability to develop a winning culture. A disappointing finish to the most recent season, coupled with growing restlessness from the fan base, prompted university officials to take action.

Athletic Director Desireé Reed-Francois made the announcement Tuesday morning, expressing appreciation for Drinkwitz’s efforts but emphasizing the need for change. “We thank Coach Drinkwitz for his dedication to the Mizzou football program,” Reed-Francois said in a statement. “After a comprehensive review of the team’s progress, we believe it is in the university’s best interest to pursue new leadership that can take us to the next level in the SEC.”

Drinkwitz departs with a record of 25–24 over four seasons, a tenure marked by flashes of progress but ultimately falling short of long-term expectations. Despite his charisma and recruiting prowess, the lack of significant postseason success and inconsistent quarterback play became recurring issues throughout his time in Columbia.
