GREAT NEWS: Aliyah Chavez, Oklahoma Sooners WBB Lands Commitment from Five-Star Prospect No.1 Player in America Chooses Sooners Over Kentucky, Alabama and Louisville…

In a monumental victory for the Oklahoma Sooners, five-star guard and the nation’s No. 1 high school women’s basketball prospect, Aliyah Chavez, has officially announced her commitment to the University of Oklahoma. The highly coveted recruit chose the Sooners over powerhouse programs like Kentucky, Alabama, and Louisville, sending waves of excitement through Norman and across the college basketball landscape.

Chavez, who hails from Lubbock, Texas, has long been viewed as a generational talent. Known for her elite scoring ability, court vision, and relentless competitiveness, she’s dominated the high school circuit, averaging over 30 points per game and drawing comparisons to some of the greatest guards in the women’s game. Her commitment represents a major recruiting win for head coach Jennie Baranczyk, who continues to build Oklahoma into a national title contender.

“This is more than just basketball for me. It’s about being part of something special,” Chavez said in her announcement. “Oklahoma felt like home from the very beginning. Coach Baranczyk and her staff made me feel believed in, and I want to help bring a national championship to Norman.”

The Sooners’ program has enjoyed a resurgence in recent seasons under Baranczyk’s leadership, but the addition of Chavez could elevate them to elite status. Her offensive skill set, leadership qualities, and commitment to winning align perfectly with Oklahoma’s culture. With a strong returning core and Chavez’s arrival, expectations are already sky-high for the seasons ahead.

Chavez’s decision also sends a message to other top recruits: Oklahoma is a destination for greatness. Beating out traditional SEC powerhouses for a top-tier talent of her caliber signals a shift in recruiting momentum and reaffirms the Sooners’ place among the rising giants in women’s college basketball.
