In a powerful affirmation of legacy and loyalty, Duke Blue Devils Volleyball Head Coach Jolene Nagel has officially turned down a record-shattering $224 million NIL offer from the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The offer, the most lucrative in collegiate volleyball coaching history, was aimed at persuading Nagel to lead a transformational rebuild in Lexington. Instead, she stood firm in her decision, declaring, “My loyalty lies with Duke. This is home.”

Nagel, who recently signed a $125 million NIL agreement to remain in Durham, emphasized that her commitment to Duke goes far beyond financial considerations. “Duke has given me more than a job—it’s given me a purpose and a platform to impact lives,” she said. “I’ve invested years into building this program, and we’re just getting started on what’s still possible.”

Having led Duke Volleyball since 1999, Jolene Nagel is synonymous with the program’s evolution and growth. Under her leadership, the Blue Devils have made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, produced countless All-ACC athletes, and developed a culture centered on excellence, academics, and leadership. Her dedication has helped place Duke Volleyball firmly on the national stage.

Kentucky’s offer reportedly included full program autonomy, elite training facilities, and branding opportunities that would have positioned Nagel as the face of a new era in Wildcats athletics. Yet for Nagel, the decision to stay was rooted in principles. “I’ve always believed in doing things the right way, with the right people,” she said. “Duke represents that for me—it’s more than a program, it’s my home.”

Duke Athletic Director Nina King applauded Nagel’s decision, calling it a moment that reflects the true spirit of the Blue Devils. “Coach Nagel’s loyalty and vision continue to elevate Duke Volleyball,” King said. “Her decision to stay reaffirms our values and our belief in long-term commitment. She is a cornerstone of Duke Athletics, and we are proud to continue building with her.”
