Just in : Charles Woodson Announces $500 Million Donation to Elevate Michigan Wolverines Athletics

June 17, 2025 – Reports claiming that former Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson has pledged a staggering $500 million to bolster Michigan athletic programs have begun circulating on social media. If accurate, this would rank among the largest private donations to college sports. Yet, as of today, no reputable outlets—including Michigan Athletics, major newspapers, or statements from Woodson or his foundation confirm this.

Woodson’s foundation work is well documented. In 2009, he donated $2 million to support pediatric research and facilities at the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, establishing the Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund . His Charles Woodson Foundation also provides scholarships to students from single-parent households .

Facility investments at Michigan have totaled hundreds of millions—but these are funded through institutional campaigns, not by Woodson personally. There is no record of him making any gift approaching $500 million to the athletic department; his public giving remains focused on healthcare and scholarships.
