ESPN SHOCKER: Florida State Seminoles QB Thomas Castellanos Stuns College Football World—Declines $4.5M NIL Deal from Georgia to Succeed Carson Beck! Already Secured $2.1M in December, But Chooses Loyalty to the Seminoles Over Bigger Payday—A Bold Move in Today’s Chaotic NIL Landscape!

In a headline that’s shaking the foundations of the college football world, Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos has reportedly declined a blockbuster $4.5 million NIL offer from the University of Georgia. The Bulldogs, preparing for the post-Carson Beck era, aggressively pursued Castellanos as their top quarterback target. But in a move that defies the trends of today’s NIL-dominated landscape, Castellanos has chosen to stay loyal to the Seminoles and continue his mission in Tallahassee.

Castellanos, who transferred to FSU after a breakout stint at Boston College, made a major impact in 2024, bringing dynamic dual-threat playmaking to Mike Norvell’s offense. He quickly became one of the most electric quarterbacks in the ACC, earning national recognition for both his leadership and highlight-reel performances. With $2.1 million already secured in NIL deals as of December, the additional offer from Georgia was significant—but not enough to sway him.

“I came to Florida State to build something special,” Castellanos reportedly told teammates. “No amount of money can replace the bond I’ve built here and the goals we’ve set as a team.” That sentiment has rippled through the Seminoles program and beyond, drawing admiration from players, coaches, and fans who believe college football still has room for loyalty in the NIL era. Castellanos’ move reinforces the idea that the sport isn’t completely driven by financial incentives.

Georgia, one of the nation’s premier programs under head coach Kirby Smart, has made no secret of its desire to remain at the top of the college football hierarchy. With Carson Beck expected to declare for the NFL Draft after the upcoming season, the Bulldogs had hoped to bring in Castellanos as a proven, athletic quarterback capable of taking the reins immediately. His blend of experience, speed, and field awareness made him a highly sought-after transfer portal prospect.

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell praised Castellanos’ character and commitment in a statement Friday morning. “Thomas is more than just a quarterback—he’s a cornerstone of our program. His loyalty, leadership, and determination are exactly what we’re about at Florida State,” Norvell said. “It’s not just about what happens on the field—it’s about who you are when no one’s watching. Thomas made a decision based on values, not just value.”
