CONFIRMED: Texas Longhorn guard Tre Johnson has achieved a remarkable milestone in college basketball, securing both the prestigious 2025 Bob Cousy Award and the Midseason Wooden Award, highlighting his outstanding performance on the court.

In a groundbreaking accomplishment for the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball program, freshman guard Tre Johnson has secured both the prestigious 2025 Bob Cousy Award and the Midseason Wooden Award. These honors recognize Johnson as the nation’s top point guard and one of its premier players, underscoring his exceptional talent and impact on the court.

Johnson’s inaugural collegiate season was nothing short of remarkable. He led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in scoring, averaging 19.9 points per game, and set a new freshman scoring record for Texas with a 39-point performance against Arkansas in February. His shooting prowess was evident, with a 39.7% accuracy from beyond the arc, making him one of the most formidable offensive threats in college basketball.

The Bob Cousy Award, presented annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, honors the top point guard in Division I men’s college basketball. Johnson’s selection as a finalist and subsequent receipt of the award places him in an esteemed lineage of past winners. Notably, former Longhorn D.J. Augustin is the only other Texas player to have won the Bob Cousy Award.

In addition to the Bob Cousy Award, Johnson was named the Midseason Wooden Award winner, further solidifying his status as a premier player in the nation. This accolade recognizes the top player in college basketball and is a testament to Johnson’s all-around excellence and leadership on the court.

Johnson’s achievements have had a transformative effect on the Texas Longhorns’ program. His scoring ability and playmaking skills have revitalized the team’s offense, making them a formidable contender in the SEC. His presence has not only elevated the team’s performance but has also brought national attention to Texas basketball.

With his freshman season concluding, Johnson’s future in college basketball appears exceptionally promising. His accolades have propelled him into the conversation as a potential top-five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. As he continues to develop and refine his game, Johnson is poised to leave an indelible mark on both college basketball and the professional ranks.
