BREAKING: Virginia Tech standout Antwaun Powell-Ryland stuns fans with a major reveal; he’s pledging $25 million to create a haven for stray dogs, aiming to provide care, love, and homes for thousands of abandoned puppies.

In a move that has both shocked and inspired fans across the country, Virginia Tech standout Antwaun Powell-Ryland has announced a $25 million pledge to build a sanctuary for stray and abandoned dogs. Known for his relentless energy on the field, the defensive star is now showing that his heart is just as big as his game.

The announcement came during a community event in Blacksburg, where Powell-Ryland shared his deep love for animals and a long-standing dream of helping those without a voice. “Stray dogs are some of the most forgotten lives in our society,” he said. “They deserve love, safety, and a second chance—and I want to be part of making that happen.”

The facility, which will be called “Powell’s Paws Sanctuary,” will be built in southwestern Virginia and is expected to serve as one of the most comprehensive stray dog care centers in the region. Plans for the sanctuary include veterinary services, open play fields, rehabilitation units, and adoption centers. The goal is not only to shelter dogs but to rehabilitate them for placement in permanent, loving homes.

Powell-Ryland also emphasized the educational component of his mission. His foundation will partner with local schools and community groups to teach responsible pet ownership, the importance of adopting over buying, and how to support local shelters. “This isn’t just about one building,” he said. “It’s about changing the way people see and treat animals.”

Support for the project has flooded in from teammates, coaches, and fans. Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry praised Powell-Ryland’s initiative, calling it “a rare and beautiful act of leadership and compassion.” On social media, animal welfare organizations and college football supporters have voiced their admiration, many calling the project a game-changer for animal rescue efforts in the region.
