In a move that has captured hearts across the country, Purdue standout Antione West Jr. has announced a staggering $25 million pledge to create a state-of-the-art sanctuary for stray dogs. Known for his leadership and resilience on the football field, West is now stepping into a new role—as a champion for vulnerable animals in need of compassion and care.
West made the surprise announcement during a press conference on Purdue’s campus, standing alongside local animal shelter representatives and animal welfare advocates. “For me, it’s personal,” West said. “I grew up with dogs, and I’ve seen firsthand the pain of animals being neglected or abandoned. I want to change that story for as many dogs as I can.”
The sanctuary, to be called “West’s Wagging Tails Haven,” will be built on 70 acres of land just outside of West Lafayette. The facility will offer medical care, rehabilitation programs, play areas, and adoption services. Its goal is to rescue thousands of stray dogs every year, with a focus on giving them the emotional healing and physical care they need before being placed in permanent homes.
In addition to the physical infrastructure, West’s vision includes outreach programs across Indiana.
