BREAKING: Auburn Tigers standout Johni Broome stuns fans with a major reveal; he’s pledging $25 million to create a haven for stray dogs, aiming to provide care, love, and homes for thousands of abandoned puppies.

In a heartfelt and unexpected announcement, Auburn Tigers basketball star Johni Broome has pledged $25 million to build a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray dogs. The Auburn standout, widely respected for his performance on the court, is now making headlines for his extraordinary compassion off of it.

Broome revealed the plan during a campus press conference, where he was joined by shelter volunteers and several adoptable puppies. “This is something I’ve wanted to do for years,” Broome said. “I’ve seen too many stray dogs suffering on the streets or in overcrowded shelters. They deserve better. This is my way of helping them get the love and care they need.”

The project, which will be called “Broome’s Bark Haven,” is slated to be built on a large parcel of land just outside Auburn. The sanctuary will include veterinary care facilities, training and rehabilitation areas, adoption centers, and outdoor play zones designed to help dogs recover emotionally and physically before they find permanent homes.

Broome emphasized that his mission extends beyond rescue—it’s about prevention and education as well. His initiative will feature community outreach programs that teach responsible pet ownership, the importance of spaying and neutering, and how to support local shelters. “We can’t just treat the symptoms. We have to educate and empower people to be part of the solution,” he explained.

Reactions from the Auburn community and beyond have been overwhelmingly positive. Coaches, teammates, and fans praised Broome’s leadership and selflessness. Head coach Bruce Pearl commented, “Johni has always played with heart. Now he’s showing that same heart to a cause that desperately needs it. This is bigger than basketball.”
