Tommy Reamon, the esteemed footballSad coach and mentor to NFL stars Michael Vick and Aaron Brooks, passed away on May 22, 2025, at the age of 73 in Newport News, Virginia. His death follows a stroke he suffered in March, after which he was hospitalized for nearly two months .
Reamon’s coaching career spanned over 35 seasons, during which he led programs at six high schools in the Hampton Roads area, including Ferguson, Warwick, Denbigh, Gloucester, Manor, and Landstown. His most notable tenure was at Landstown High School, where he guided the team to a 12-1 record and a D6 Eastern Regional Playoff final .
Beyond his coaching achievements, Reamon was instrumental in shaping the careers of several NFL players. He coached Michael Vick and Aaron Brooks during their high school years, providing guidance that helped them transition to collegiate and professional football. Reamon also played a pivotal role in encouraging Vick to accept the head coaching position at Norfolk State University .
Before his coaching career, Reamon was a standout running back. He played at Fort Scott Junior College, earning consecutive National Junior College Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Year honors, and later at the University of Missouri. Professionally, he played in the World Football League, earning Tri-MVP honors in 1974, and had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL and the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL .
Reamon’s influence extended beyond the football field. He appeared in films and television shows, including a role in the 1979 movie “North Dallas Forty” and appearances on “Charlie’s Angels,” “Quincy, M.E.,” and “The Fall Guy” .
