Breaking News: Major Setback As Oklahoma Loses Another Top- Notch Linebacker to The Transfer Portal Just 48 Hours After Getting His…

In a significant blow to the Oklahoma Sooners’ defense, sophomore linebacker Lewis Carter has entered the NCAA transfer portal, marking the latest departure from the team’s linebacker corps. This move comes just 48 hours after the Sooners secured a commitment from a promising linebacker recruit, underscoring the challenges of roster management in the current college football landscape.
Carter, a 6-foot, 223-pound linebacker from Tampa, Florida, played in all 25 games during his two seasons with Oklahoma, primarily contributing as a backup and on special teams. In the 2024 season, he recorded 21 tackles, including two tackles for loss, along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. His departure adds to the growing list of defensive players leaving the program.
The timing of Carter’s decision coincides with the recent announcement that linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Zac Alley is departing Oklahoma to take the defensive coordinator position at West Virginia. This coaching change may have influenced Carter’s choice to explore opportunities elsewhere.
Carter’s exit is part of a broader trend, as Oklahoma has now seen 26 players enter the transfer portal during the current cycle, including fellow linebackers Phil Picciotti and Dasan McCullough. McCullough, who transferred to Oklahoma from Indiana, had been a significant contributor to the defense over the past two seasons.
Despite these losses, the Sooners have been proactive in replenishing their roster. Notably, they secured a commitment from Kendal Daniels, a versatile defender from Oklahoma State, who is expected to play a hybrid linebacker/safety role in the defense.
