Breaking: The 6’1 195 Four-Star LB Jakore Smith From Bryant Has Committed to Oklahoma; He Chose the Sooners Over Arkansas, Nebraska and Texas A&M

In a significant boost to the University of Oklahoma’s 2026 recruiting class, four-star linebacker Jakore Smith from Bryant High School in Arkansas has announced his commitment to the Sooners. Smith, standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 195 pounds, chose Oklahoma over other prominent programs, including Arkansas, Nebraska, and Texas A&M.
Smith’s decision marks the second defensive commitment for Oklahoma this week, following the pledge of safety Niko Jandreau. This momentum underscores head coach Brent Venables’ emphasis on strengthening the defensive unit.
Ranked as the No. 18 linebacker nationally and the No. 4 prospect in Arkansas by 247Sports, Smith’s athleticism and field awareness have garnered attention. His tenure at Bryant High School, following a transfer from Parkview Magnet High School in Little Rock, showcased his versatility and leadership on the field.
Smith’s connection to Oklahoma extends beyond the coaching staff. He previously played alongside current Sooner freshman defensive back Omarion Robinson at Bryant, a relationship that influenced his decision.
The linebacker has scheduled an official visit to Oklahoma from June 6-8, aligning with the program’s ChampU BBQ event. This visit will further integrate him into the Sooners’ community and allow him to engage with future teammates and coaches.
Smith’s commitment is a testament to Oklahoma’s recruiting strategy and the appeal of its defensive program under Coach Venables. As the Sooners continue to build their 2026 class, securing top-tier talent like Smith positions them for sustained success in the competitive landscape of college football.
