Kansas State Wildcats fans are celebrating a significant milestone as Head Coach Jeff Mittie has signed a new five-year contract extension, securing his leadership through the 2028–29 season. This agreement underscores the university’s commitment to sustaining the momentum of its women’s basketball program, which has seen remarkable growth and success under Mittie’s guidance.

Since joining Kansas State in 2014, Mittie has transformed the Wildcats into a formidable force in women’s college basketball. Over his tenure, he has led the team to eight postseason appearances, including five NCAA Tournament bids, and has amassed a 190–135 record. The 2023–24 season was particularly noteworthy, with the Wildcats achieving a 26–8 record and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The team also reached a historic No. 2 ranking in the AP Top 25 poll, reflecting their competitive prowess on the national stage.

Mittie’s new contract includes a structured salary progression, starting at $750,000 for the 2024–25 season and increasing annually to $925,000 by the 2028–29 season. The agreement also features performance-based incentives, such as bonuses for postseason achievements and national rankings. Notably, the contract allows for automatic one-year extensions, up to three times, if the team secures NCAA Tournament berths, emphasizing the program’s focus on sustained excellence.

The Wildcats are poised for continued success, returning four starters from the previous season, including All-American center Ayoka Lee. Lee’s presence, along with key contributors like Serena Sundell and the Glenn sisters, Brylee and Jaelyn, positions Kansas State as a strong contender in the Big 12 Conference. The team’s depth and experience are expected to play a crucial role in their pursuit of a conference title and deeper NCAA Tournament runs.

Athletic Director Gene Taylor expressed confidence in Mittie’s leadership, stating, “Coach Mittie and his staff have done an unbelievable job building and sustaining a championship-caliber women’s basketball program here at K-State.” Taylor highlighted the excitement surrounding the program and the positive impact of Mittie’s tenure on both the team’s performance and the university community.

As the Wildcats prepare for the upcoming season, the extension of Coach Mittie’s contract signifies a commitment to continuity and ambition. With a solid foundation, experienced roster, and strategic leadership, Kansas State aims to build upon its recent successes and solidify its status as a powerhouse in women’s college basketball.
