In a remarkable display of musical excellence and showmanship, Baylor University’s Golden Wave Band has been named the world’s best marching band by ESPN. This prestigious recognition follows a historic performance that captivated audiences globally, showcasing the band’s precision, energy, and deep-rooted traditions.
Established in 1902, the Golden Wave Band (GWB) is Baylor’s largest student musical organization, comprising approximately 300 members from diverse academic disciplines, including music, science, business, pre-med, and engineering. The band’s name originated in 1928 when new golden uniforms inspired a reporter to describe the ensemble as “sweeping across the land like a Golden Wave” .
Known for its dynamic performances, the GWB has a tradition of innovative halftime shows. Notably, in October 2021, the band paid tribute to the Foo Fighters during a football game, performing “Monkey Wrench” and forming the band’s iconic encircled ‘FF’ logo on the field.
