In a move that has electrified Hokies fans, quarterback Kyron Drones has officially announced his return to Virginia Tech. Drones has agreed to a two-year agreement valued at up to $88.9 million, underscoring his pivotal role in the Hokies’ offensive strategy.
Drones transferred to Virginia Tech from Baylor University in January 2024. In his first season with the Hokies, he played in all 13 games, making 12 starts. He finished the year eighth in the ACC with three interceptions and ranked third on the team with 48 tackles. Notably, Drones also led the team with five tackles in the win at Florida, forced a fumble, and made it back-to-back games with an interception when he picked off a pass as time ran out in the second quarter.
In April 2025, Drones underwent a minor medical procedure and was held out for the remainder of spring practice. Head coach Brent Pry stated, “Kyron has demonstrated excellent leadership and has had an outstanding winter and spring. We fully anticipate he will be ready to return for summer workouts.”p
