The Florida Gators have secured a major addition to their quarterback room, as former Texas Longhorns signal-caller Maalik Murphy has officially committed to UF. Murphy, who entered the transfer portal following the 2024 season, selected Florida over Kentucky and Alabama.

A former highly touted recruit, Murphy served as Quinn Ewers’ backup at Texas but saw limited playing time. Despite this, his strong arm and high ceiling made him one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the portal. Florida head coach Billy Napier and his staff prioritized Murphy, selling him on the opportunity to compete for the starting job in Gainesville.
