NEWS UPDATE: Virginia Tech Hokies 5-Star Quarterback Requests to Leave the Team After Feeling Misled by Fans and the Organization Despite His Commitment.

In a surprising turn of events, Virginia Tech’s five-star quarterback recruit, who had committed to the Hokies just three months ago, has requested to leave the team. Citing feelings of being misled by both fans and the organization, the quarterback expressed dissatisfaction despite his initial commitment.

This development adds to the Hokies’ ongoing quarterback challenges. Kyron Drones, who transferred from Baylor in 2023, started 11 games last season, throwing for 2,085 yards with 17 touchdowns and three interceptions, while also rushing for 818 yards and five touchdowns. Despite his contributions, the team faced uncertainties at the quarterback position, leading to speculation about potential changes.

In December 2024, both Drones and backup quarterback William “Pop” Watson III confirmed their return for the upcoming season, providing some stability amidst the team’s offseason challenges. However, the recent request from the five-star recruit to leave the team introduces new uncertainties as the Hokies prepare for the 2025 season.

The Virginia Tech community now awaits further details on this situation and its potential impact on the team’s dynamics and performance in the upcoming season.
