Major Update: Virginia Tech Strengthened Its Football Coaching Staff with Key Hires Designed to Improve Both Offensive and Defensive Strategies.

In a decisive move to bolster both offensive and defensive capabilities, Virginia Tech’s head football coach, Brent Pry, has made significant additions to the coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season. These strategic hires aim to address previous shortcomings and rejuvenate the Hokies’ performance on the field.

To revitalize the offense, Pry appointed Philip Montgomery as the new offensive coordinator. Montgomery brings a wealth of experience and a modern offensive approach, having previously served as the head coach at Tulsa and as offensive coordinator at Baylor, where his innovative strategies led to record-breaking performances. His expertise is expected to enhance the Hokies’ offensive dynamics and improve overall efficiency.

Additionally, Matt Moore has been brought on as the offensive line coach. Moore, known for his strong recruiting skills and NFL experience, previously coached at West Virginia, where he developed several All-Big 12 performers. His appointment is anticipated to strengthen the offensive line, providing better protection and run support.

On the defensive side, Sam Siefkes has been named the new defensive coordinator. Siefkes joins from the Arizona Cardinals, where he served as the linebackers coach. Despite being relatively unknown at the Power Five level, his previous successes at Wisconsin-Platteville and Wofford, coupled with endorsements from NFL coaches, suggest a promising tenure ahead.

These coaching changes come in response to a challenging 2024 season, during which the Hokies struggled with consistency and effectiveness on both sides of the ball.
