JUST IN: Major Setback As Kansas Wildcats Loses Another Top-Notch Linebacker To The Transfer Portal Just 48 Hours After Getting His…

Kansas State University’s football program has encountered a significant setback with the departure of linebacker Alec Marenco, who entered the transfer portal on December 9, 2024. Marenco joined the Wildcats earlier in 2024 from New Mexico, where he served as a starter and team captain. However, during his tenure at Kansas State, he did not appear in any games, raising questions about his fit within the team’s defensive scheme.

This departure comes shortly after the Wildcats secured a commitment from linebacker Gabe Powers, a transfer from Ohio State. Powers, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 242 pounds, brings considerable talent and experience to Kansas State’s defense.
Despite Marenco’s exit, Kansas State has been proactive in strengthening its roster through the transfer portal. The Wildcats have added 14 new players, including seven on offense and seven on defense, marking their highest intake in modern recruiting history. Notable defensive additions include defensive back Mar’Quavious “Qua” Moss from West Georgia and defensive back Jordan Dunbar, who transferred to Bowling Green.

Head coach Chris Klieman and his staff are now tasked with integrating these new talents to maintain the team’s competitive edge in the upcoming season. The Wildcats are currently co-favorites to win the Big 12 Conference in 2025, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
